"Butter" up with Foxy Lemon

“Butter” is the fuzzed out new track from Foxy Lemon, and the overall sound harkens back to a different time for music. Would it have seemed out of place to hear a song like this at Altamont or Woodstock? It doesn’t seem so. Their stellar organ melodies and fuzzed out guitar riffs fit right alongside the Portland garage rock scene, but stand out from the crowd by capturing the iconic feel of classic American rock music. If ever there is a remake of Dazed and Confused, “Butter” would undoubtedly make it onto the soundtrack. This single is the first teaser from their forthcoming extended single, Jelly, which will undoubtedly maintain the same heavy, catchy crispness as this first release. You can catch Foxy Lemon at The Know on December 19th with Maszer and Spirit Lake.

HORMOANS Grind And Sweat Through The Holidays

God damn, do I ever love HORMOANS.

I first listened to the Toronto based 3 piece rock band sometime before they released their new album, Slander, earlier this year. Time has only made their sound harder, grungier and overall better than I could have imagined. They combine the sounds of punk with classic alternative and just a hint of upbeat surf to make a sound that truly resonates and makes you want to bop your head to it. If you haven’t already listened to Slander, you absolutely have to at least listen to “Made of Stone” and “Crowbar”, two of my favourite tracks off the album that showcase the variety and smooth mixing of styles of Hormoans that remind me of bands like The Distillers or even Pavement. Punchy drum beats, upbeat and catchy guitar riffs peppered with some really smooth bass lines make this whole album a gem in my books. Make sure to listen to Slander and their 2013 album, Millar.

Pet Sun Showcase Grizzly New EP

Pet Sun has been one of my favorite bands to come around in the last year. They have 2 EPs and a single "Never Quit" available right now, but new tunes from them have been long awaited to say the least. Their new EP "Shade Driver" has three tunes on it. The first is a 6 minute dirty masterpiece "Dark Planet" which begins with a sweet guitar lick and a mellow groove. It expands into a full on garage onslaught for the chorus. Hold on, cause half way through they slow the pace down and turn the fuzz up ,which, in turn, essentially f*cks shit up. It's captivating; you'll get lost in the "Dark Planet". The following tune "Zenifer" is their fuzzy pop song; catchy rhythms and a sweet ass solo to finish it off. "Mrs. Warp" is the next track which has an extended guitar/vocal intro and an intense doom vibe. When the drums kick in it has a slow head bangin' feel to it. These guys like to tease; obviously I'm excited that they are releasing new tunes, but I just selfishly want a full record already! Go get "Shade Driver" by Pet Sun on physical disc or digital now!
